  • City Drive – Enjoy a scenic drive through Kumasi, passing monuments that pay tribute to the remarkable Ashanti people and their contributions to Ghana’s history.
  • Kejetia Market – Immerse yourself in one of the largest and busiest markets in West Africa, where a vibrant mix of goods and cultural exchanges take place.
  • National Cultural Centre – Visit the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, where you’ll learn about Ashanti culture, and explore workshops of local artisans including brass makers, potters, and batik makers.

Day 5: Kumasi – Slave River

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and continue your journey through the forest zone towards Assin Manso, the site of the former Slave River and Market. This historical site was one of the last transit points for enslaved Africans on their way to the coast.

Explore the Legacy of the Slave Trade

  • Donkor Nsuo (Slave River) – Visit the site where enslaved Africans were held before being transported across the Atlantic. Learn about the final resting place of two ancestors whose remains were returned from the USA and Jamaica and reburied here.
  • Optional Bath in the River – You can also opt to bathe in the river (additional cost).

Afterwards, continue your journey to Cape Coast and check into your 4-star hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy at your leisure.

Day 6: Castles, Dungeons & Fishing Village

Explore the Dark History of the Slave Trade

  • Cape Coast Castle – Visit this infamous site where you’ll learn about the Western slave traders’ connections with African tribes, which fueled the transatlantic slave trade. Stand in the dungeons where millions of enslaved Africans were held before their brutal journey across the ocean. The castle also houses the West African Historical Museum.
  • Elmina Castle (St. George’s Castle) – Witness the grim conditions of the dungeons where enslaved Africans were imprisoned before being shipped across the Atlantic. Standing in these dark and overcrowded spaces offers a sobering reminder of the inhumanity of the slave trade.

After lunch (on your own), enjoy a visit to the picturesque yet gritty Elmina Fishing Village. Here, you’ll learn about the traditional fishing industry, meet local fishermen, and experience the process of smoking fish in earthenware ovens. Day 7: Kakum Rainforest and Canopy Walkway – Accra

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and embark on a scenic drive through the historic Denkyira Kingdom towards Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s last surviving tropical rainforests.

Choose Your Adventure

  • Nature Walk (2 km) – Take a leisurely walk through the rainforest to explore the diverse flora and fauna, learning about the medicinal properties of various plants.
  • Canopy Walkway – For the more adventurous, experience the canopy walkway, which hangs 40 meters above the ground, providing a unique view of the rainforest from above.

Day 8: Living Heritage Ceremony & Cedi Beads

After breakfast, depart from Accra and head to a picturesque village located on the lower course of the Volta River. There, you will participate in a Living Heritage Ceremony, where you’ll be welcomed by the chief and elders with traditional drumming and dancing. As part of this ceremony, participants will be honored with a traditional Ghanaian name and presented with a gift to celebrate your new identity as a member of the community.

Discover the Craft of Bead-Making

After lunch, visit a Cedi Beads Factory and market. Beads hold significant cultural importance in the lives of the Krobo people of Ghana, and you’ll have the chance to witness the traditional process of bead-making firsthand. Learn about their symbolic roles and see the intricacy involved in creating these beautiful pieces.

Return to Accra and check into your hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 9: Departure from Accra, Ghana

After breakfast, take some time to pack and do some last-minute shopping in Accra. Enjoy the morning exploring the city one last time before heading back to the airport for your return flight. Please note that flight arrangements are not included in the package. Check-out time is 12:00 noon.
